I spoke with a friend who travels around the world and I asked her what country has the best customer service. She told me Japan has the best service because you are always greeted enthusiastically and people are just more attentive there. However, when it comes to returns, it's pretty much frowned upon. If you buy something, you better stick with it!
I would probably have to agree with her. I visited Japan back in '91 and I do recall always being greeted when I walk into a store. I didn't know if that was standard or because I was a tourist.
Can you think of a country that has great service?

My foriegn travel is limited to two years in England and five days in southern California. I found the shopkeepers to be generally stereotypical of Britains - aloof but available. At fish 'n chip shops, though, service was excellent, one of those "everybody knows your name" deals.
