A grand opening at a Wegmans supermarket has been compared to a
rock concert. One just opened in Mount Laurel, N.J this past Sunday and there were 800 people waiting at the grand opening!
Wegmans food markets has been rated one of the best grocery retailers and Fortune's 100 Best Companies To Work For, but has put the reins on expanding too quickly. That's because the privately held company that's been reported to make $1 million in sales per week per store (!) wants to make sure each and every person that works for them is fully trained to provide the level of service that Wegmans is known for. Their style of business is not "money-intensive", it is "people-intensive".
Can you just imagine making $1 million in sales per store per week! I have no doubt in my mind that this company treats their employees like employees should be treated.
