I'm normally not a touchy-feely person, but as a salesperson I learned
that touching my customers, whether it be a friendly hand on the back or a slight touch on the hand, created some kind of bond between me and the customer.
Meikah, of the Customer Relations blog, did some research and found that most consumers responded in a favorable way towards employees who briefly touched them and that both men and women reacted equally to this form of non-verbal communication. Touching customers led to increased shopping times and purchase amounts.
What does Meikah think about being touched?
"I for one am squeamish about being touched by someone I do not know. I would think that too forward. Surely, there are other ways to get more customers aside from touching him or her. "
As for me, well, I don't mind being touched. I would feel more comfortable around the associate/salesperson and think that they genuinely cared about helping me!

Cool! I think you've just validated the study I've mentioned. Interesting!
