When I lived downtown, I always shopped at the mom and pop stores for food. I liked shopping there because the people were always happy to see me and didn't mind blabbing about random stuff. If I was short on money, they just said, "Ok, just pay the next time you come in." I actually felt like part of their family :)
And so today we celebrate Mom and Pop Business Day. I didn't even 
know this day existed until I came upon my friend's blog. Here's what she has to say about Mom and Pop Day:
" Today we honor those small mom and pop businesses that make our shopping more fun. They provide extra customer service, know our names, and provide great product suggestions. It may cost more, they don't have all the bells and whistles that the huge stores have, but the positives definitely outweight the negatives. They are a great access to our local communities. "
