I said in a previous post that I worked at Travelodge's call center which is based right outside San Diego. Was it an easy job? I would say it was easy in terms of physical labor - all I had to do was sit there and take calls all day. Was it easy mentally?
That would be a big fat NO!
Like any position in customer service, you have to deal with many different types of people, and there were people who had multiple personalities! It was easy for people to say whatever they wanted to you, especially if they were angry - simply because they're not in your face. And yes, I do have to admit there were a couple occasions when I just hung up on a customer (I know, I was a little bad back then, sorry).
Jam Myer at Call Center Script, also gives us a view of working in a call center:
"It is NOT an easy job. Truth be told, call center agents get the beating (and rewards) daily with hundreds of calls from different personality types. It is hard enough to be expected to know all the company’s policies in a matter of weeks, let alone give excellent customer service."
