I just read an interesting article that said researchers at a German University conducted a study that shows people such as call center
personnel, flight attendants, basically anyone working in service, are at risk of falling ill and harming their health.
"Every time a person is forced to repress his true feelings there are negative consequences for his health," said Professor Dieter Zapf, one of the researchers.*
I know from experience that I get extremely stressed out when I have to deal with a difficult or irate customer. It takes a great deal of energy to shut my mouth and not speak out. I wouldn't be surprised if people had heart problems or high blood pressure because of a career in customer service!
Do you feel that your customer service job is affecting your health?
