I was in Michael's today, the arts and crafts store, shopping for beading materials when I came upon another customer asking a customer service rep if she knew where a particular item was.
What not to say: "Well, you're in the right area." Basically, she was saying - Good luck finding it!
"So, you don't know where I can find something like that?" the customer asked.
What not to say OR do: "To be honest with you, this is my second day, so..." and she started to walk away!
I had to help this lady!
"What is it that you're looking for, maybe I can help you?" I told the other customer. She gave me a curious look and I guided her to the area where she found what she needed.
Lesson for the day: If you're new to a company and you don't know anything, the best thing to say is, "I don't know, let me find somebody who can answer that question for you."
