I just came across another great customer service quote by Gandhi via Customer
Relations: The New Competitive Edge:
“A ‘Customer’ is the most important visitor on our premises.
He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.
He is not an interruption on our work. He is the purpose of it.
He is not an outsider on our business. He is a part of it.
We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.”
-- Mahatma Gandhi
I get chills just reading it! Such a wise man :) And Meikah offers some great commentary on it...

Thank you, Maria!
That's putting the concept of "customer" succinctly, indeed. It's just interesting that Gandhi had these thoughts early on when I think most companies were still operations-driven. Companies these days have a lot to learn from this quote.
