Customer service is also in the details - how you present yourself and your store.
Recently, I was shopping at a major department store in the housewares department and was appalled by how dusty the displays and fixtures were. I picked up a box of glasses, put it down, and noticed all the dirt on my hands. Then I began to sneeze uncontrollably....
I began to wonder if the people who worked there had any pride in their store. I'm pretty sure their job description asks that they "maintain a clean and presentable store environment". Instead, they preferred to stand behind the counter and chat. Seeing a dirty, dusty store tells me that they just don't care.

In retrospect, I'm glad she had me get down and scrub the floor. I wouldn't have learned the value of maintaining a clean store. It speaks volumes when you have a sparkling and organized store for your customers to shop in.
