Listening is must-have skill for any person working in customer service. Since part of customer service is determining a customer's needs and fulfilling their needs, you must listen to what the customer has to say. Here are some tips to be a better listener:
* Have eye contact with your customer. If you maintain good eye contact, you're more likely to listen to what the person has to say than be distracted by the surroundings.
* Don't interrupt the customer. Some customers speak slow, but don't try to finish their sentences. You may be interrupting their thought process and you'll appear to be rushing them.
* Don't think about what you want to say next. You may miss some important details about a customer's needs.
* Remain calm. When dealing with irate customers, emotions tend to run high and listening shuts down. If you remain calm, you'll be able to fully hear what a customer has to say.
The better you listen, the better you can service your customer!
