Which Came First, The Customer or The Service?

I ponder this concept of customer service and two questions come to mind:  “Aren’t we all customers?” and “Don’t we all provide some type of service?” 

 

If you dig even a little deeper, you’ll discover that in reality we are all doing some type of work that directly or indirectly benefits another person.  Isn’t that what customer service is?  So, would it be safe to say that we all work in customer service?

 

When I further dissect this “customer service” concept and break up the two words, my mind takes me to another question, “Which came first, the service or the customer?”  I would have to say that the customer came first.  It is the customer who then turns around and asks, “How can I be of service?”  We’re all essentially born with a purpose or “service” to contribute to the world.

 

I think that if we can take on this perspective of being a service to help improve someone else’s life, perhaps this will bring more meaning to the work that we do.  Moreover, we can then be better “customers”.

I'd love your insight on how to treat corporate clients. I know for sure, it's easier to keep them than get them, but I'm sure I can do better. What do you think?

Customer service is such a big part of every business. After being a bill collector for 17 years, you tend to become a little cranky when dealing with debtors. This is true for any business owner who ends up having people who don't pay them. they lose sight of the customer service aspect of the sale and become "cranky".
My book "Become the Squeaky Wheel, a Credit & Collections Guide for everyone" is about collecting money while maintaining good customer relations or customer service. Not something many business owners think about, but should.

I had given the set to our Nokia Service Centre at City Heart, SCR – 26/8, Jhanj Gate, Jind – 126112 on 13 Aug. 2007 and the service job sheet No. is 239434038/070813/23.
The fault has been noticed by the care centre is Blank Display and they had given me the target delivery date 03rd Sep.2007.
According to the rules and regulations of the company they have to provide us a new set with in stipulated time. But they gave me an old hand set which was in a bad condition as compare to my mobile. So many scratches were marked on the screen and the whole body of the mobile, so, I deny accepting that set and request them to arrange me a new set.
But they misbehaved with me and took the set with them. I also talk with Mr.Malkeet Singh who is Regional Head of Haryana. But he also did not give any positive response and warned me that you will get only that old set.
Sir, it’s my humble request to you that please look in to this matter as soon as possible as I am very upset from the behavior of the Nokia Company employees and it gave me mental harassment.
Please look carefully in to the matter and reply me soon so that I will gave new way to my proceedings.

Customer Convenience? Not the experience I had Saturday at the Southaven, Ms. store. Alisha (not sure of the spelling as she did not have a name tag) walked to the counter like she had all day. By the time she got there I almost forgot why I had come to the store. She never greeted me or even asked if I needed help. I wanted to return a George Forman grill and gave her my receipt. She never even looked at me, until I asked if she could put the return on my debit card. She snarled and said she had to return cash. Ok, I signed the cashier receipt she slid across the counter and got my money back. If this is the best you can hire I don't think I'll be back. My neighbor was with me and wanted to pay on her account. She not only wasn't greeted but wasn't thanked for her payment. If the woman was having a bad day, that's too bad, since I think we all have them. However, her attitude was more than we could take. Do your employees not know who pays their salary?
Sure, the check read Kohl's, but where does Kohl's get the money to pay them? Something these people need to start thinking about. I am a customer service oriented person and I think there could be some improvement in your Customer Convenience department.

When I received my computer I did not get my Owner's Manual for Dimension 3000. Yes I have it on line, but when my computer had problems and the computer would not start, the on line manaual was useless. Please send a copy of Demsion 3000 to:V.Haranczak, 15694 Golden dr., Macomb Twp., Mi 49044-3162. Also, when my floppy drive was in stalled on site, the installer did not leave my disc for the floppy. I have poatpaid airtel corporate connection.Payment of Bills are collect by the agenets of airtel and because of non-collection of amount last month my payment became over due and in the last bill i was advised to ,ake payment before 8/11/07 and any late payment is not applicable for overdue bills.Surprizingly my service was disconnected one days earlier on 7/11/07 without informing me the the reason therefor.I called the collecting agent and also the customer care stating the fact that the due date is 8/11 and when i made the payment of full amount on 8/11, i was told on 8/11 mornig that the service will be restored soon. In the evening I was told to switch off and on my set and that the service has been already restored. I kept calling every hour but lastly i was told that due to server problem there is delay but surely it will be restord by 9th morning. I thereafter kept calling the collecting agent several times who chose not to pick up the phone lastly i was informed that by him through SMS to contact the corporate head Sri Kamal Saha. When I contacted this morning on 11/11 he expressed his inability to do anything on sunday.
Due to this harrassment I have incurred several losses that can not be compensated by money. Even till now after five days since disconnection of service,there is no communication from airtel stating any reason though the full payment has been done within the due date.I would like to know ahat appropriate action can be initiated against the service provider legal or otherwise demanding the compentation to my corporate office who has inceurred inconvenience and has not been able to get my valuable services on holidays and ( it is vital to inform that on strike days too the availibiltiy of service is ssential)therefore i would like to have suggestions for appropriate action that can be initiated against the service provider for the disconnection and consequential damages that my self and my corporate office has suffered.

I am regular ICICI Credit Card user since 2 and half year and track record you can verify. I have done some balance transfer in the month of July' 2007 for an amount of Rs.18,000/-. for which I have given a letter stating that the interest for the first 6 months will be @.75%. Whereas the interest has been charged more than the interest prescribed in the letter. For which I have been contacting the help line for calculation of interest and reversal of interest. I was in the Cedar Bluff Virginia store today, and had the worst experience of my life. The cashier balled my clothing up to put it in the bag. When i ask her not to do that she continued as though i said nothing. Then went she took my money, she forgot to give me change, and her supervisor, pulled her drawer and said that she would have to do a audit. I waited about fifteen minutes, and left the store, the change was only 95cents, but it is principal of the thing. When i called home office, i was told that they could do nothing about it. I wil never visit this store again as the cashiers are rude and do not care about their customers. I hope Kmart makes good use of that 95cents because i will never shop there again.

I had asked for £5000 loan for christmas expences and they did not mention that they will take £49.99 from my bank account. I am disappointed in Customer Service at Real Simple. In repeated attempts to correct an error in my bill, I have been referred to Billing which does not answer. You might have to change your name to Real Difficult.
