I love to eat out and I am pretty critical of the service I receive in restaurants. This past weekend I ate at Red Lobster with my boyfriend for his birthday. Our service was great, however, the lady across from us was not thrilled with hers.
"...and she said that it was not her job..." the lady complained to the manager-in-charge.
That's the only part of the conversation I heard, but it was enough to make me cringe. Yes, we all have our own duties, but sometimes we may need to do something that's not listed in the "job description" in order to please a customer. Doing a cartwheel could be the difference between a $10 and $20 tip.
I've never been a waitress, so I don't know exactly what a waitress does or does not do. I would assume that it's different with each establishment. In any case, if I was a waitress, you better believe that whatever the customer wants, the customer gets. I've heard of waiters who ran to the liquor store down the street because the restaurant didn't carry a particular drink that the customer wanted.
Now that's service! I have heard that being a server is a very tough job. As the saying goes, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!"
